Give Someone a Chance to Live

THE letter was simply addressed: “Dear Mr Donor”, and as Shaw McIntyre read on, the sudden realisation of what he had just done became overwhelming.

“My daughter will be three years old this month,” he read, “and your gift is the best one I could ever have asked for: the gift of a new life."

There aren’t many things that can shake a burly West Lothian roofer to the soles of his working boots, but for father-of-three Shaw, discovering he had just helped save the life of a little girl 6000 miles away was enough to bring a lump to his throat.

You too could donate life to someone - and it's easy.  There is a  desperate need for more volunteers to join the bone marrow register.  Patients are dying as suitable marrow donors cannot be found in time to give them a life-saving bone marrow transplant.  Many of these are children.

Please don't let time run out on our children

Less than 3 in 10 patients find a donor in their own family so most rely on the worldwide bone marrow register.  However there is an urgent need for more volunteers to sign up as potential donors.  That need is even greater within minority ethnic communities.  You can make a real difference.

Find out how easy it is to be a life saver  -  then do it.

Can't make it to a registration drive?  Then register by post.

What is it like to donate bone marrow?

Often fear of the unknown prevents people from finding out more and joining the bone marrow register.  The best way to find out what it is like to donate is from donors themselves.  In August 2007 the Western Daily Press published two feature articles covering personal accounts of bone marrow donors.  These can be downloaded by clicking on the thumbnail below:

Register by post TODAY

It is important that new potential donors take steps to join the bone marrow register as soon as possible.  But what if there is no clinic near to you?  The answer is easy - REGISTER BY POST.  It is an easy process to join the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Register by post.
