2012 - Make it a

2011
was a year of trouble and turmoil. The news was
full of conflict and problems around the world. 2012 will be
dominated by the Olympics and Euro 2012. But the problems of 2011
will continue leaving many feeling helpless.
However you can do something to make the world a better place.

Chance to Live
THE
letter was simply addressed: “Dear Mr Donor”, and as Shaw McIntyre read
on, the sudden realisation of what he had just done became overwhelming.
“My daughter will be three years old this month,” he read, “and your
gift is the best one I could ever have asked for: the gift of a new
life."
There aren’t many things that can shake a burly West Lothian roofer to
the soles of his working boots, but for father-of-three Shaw,
discovering he had just helped save the life of a little girl 6000 miles
away was enough to bring a lump to his throat.
You too could donate life to someone - and it's easy.
There is a desperate need for more volunteers to join the bone marrow register.
Patients are dying as suitable marrow donors cannot be found in time to
give them a life-saving bone marrow transplant. Many of these are
children.

than 3 in 10 patients find a donor in their own family so most rely on the
worldwide bone marrow register. However there is an urgent need for

What is it like to donate bone marrow?
OFTEN fear of the unknown prevents people from finding out more and
joining the bone marrow register. The best way to find out what it
is like to donate is from donors themselves. In August 2007 the Western Daily Press published two feature articles covering
